Crazy Basketball Court!

This court (in Munich, Germany) is just like any other regulation sized basketball court with some distorted lines painted on it right?
WRONG! Look again but from a different angle.
The court is actually morphed. It is made up of several hills to make your game of basketball very interesting. I wouldn't suggest playing a serious game of basketball on this court unless you could care less about what happens to your ankles! lol Still, it's very cool to look at and the court allows you to come up with some creative rules for the next game one would play here.

Check out the full article on the court HERE!
It gives a more detailed description of the court and is pretty interesting to read!

Baseball Highlights!

There have been some cool things happening in baseball lately!
First of all, a Cirque du Soleil performer throws out the first pitch at the Kansas City vs. San Diego baseball game at PETCO Park. This pitch is very different from any other opening pitch that I have ever seen or heard of in a baseball game. The performer does an amazing flip in the air and throws the ball as he lands back on the ground. CHECK OUT HIS PITCH! If you would like to read more about the performer in the yahoo news story HERE!

Next up in baseball: a cub's fan returns a home run ball, hit by Miguel Tejada, back to the giants dugout. This doesn't seem like anything to exciting but this kid didn't just run over and give the ball to the athletes in the Giant's dugout; instead, he threw the ball all the way from his seat into the infield and it rolls right up to the dugout! Click HERE to check out the video. This kid has one amazing arm! You can also read the yahoo news story by clicking HERE.

Kid Throws Ball Back at a Baseball Game

A boy watching the San Francisco Giants vs. Cleveland Indians game on Saturday when he caught Andres Torres' foul ball. Instead of keeping the ball, he shocked those around him, especially his dad (to the right of the video), and threw the ball back to the field. This kid has a sweet arm though! Super Fast Spray Paint Art!

This video is seriously awesome! The artist in this video creates a beautiful picture from spray paint in just  60 seconds! I'm not going to tell you what the picture turns out to be because I don't want to totally give away the surprise of how the picture turns out. However, I promise you that it is totally worth your time to check out the video. This guy is one talented artist!

Shark Jumps Over Surfer!

Jacob Langston, a photographer for the Orlando Sentinel, was taking video of a group of surfers off the coast of New Smyrna Beach in Florida. He heard someone say "Dude, did you see that?". Langston didn't actually see what happened but he caught the action on his camera. During "Jump The Shark", a shark jumped the surfer. Want to see the video?

Hungry?? Flip through a cook book!

Around lunch time the other day I was feeling pretty hungry. Too bad it was time to go get groceries so there wasn't much in the refrigerator yet. There were eggs so I thought maybe I will boil a couple eggs or just have scrambled eggs. That sounded boring to me, though, so I decided to look in the cook book to see if it would give me any other ideas of something I could make with the eggs. However, I ended up finding a lunch meal that you make with hotdogs. I love hotdogs so this definitely caught my attention! The recipe that I found was for a Hot Dog Roll-up from an old version of the Betty Crocker cookbook. You probably are thinking I am talking about Pigs-In-A-Blanket. They are a delicious food but if this is what you think a Ho Dog Roll-up is then you would be wrong! Instead, it is a hot dog with a mixture of mayannaise, onion, pickle relish, and mustard on top of it and wrapped together in a slice of white bread. Here is how to make it.
What You Will Need
(serves 8)
8    Frankfurters
8    Slices whie sandwhich bread
1/4 cup mayannaise or salad dressing
2    Tablespoons finely chopped onion
2    Tablespoons pickle relish
1    Tablespoon prepared mustard
1/4 cup margarine or butter, melted
You Will Also Need...
- a bowl
- spoon and knife
- 13x9x2 inch baking pan
- wooden tooth picks
- teaspoons
-1/4 measuring cup

Place the frankfurter in the center of each slice of bread. Mix mayonnaise, onion, relish, and mustard. Spoon about 2 teaspoons mayannaise mixture over each frankfurter. Bring sides of bread up over frankfurter; secure with wooden tooth picks. Place roll-ups, seam sides down, in ungreased rectangular baking dish, 13x9x2 inches. Brush each with margarine. Bake uncovered in 350 degree oven until hot and golden brown, about 20 minutes.

This recipe will make 8 sandwhiches and there are about 335 calories per sandwich. Now it might sound gross but give this recipe a try before you toss it in the trash. I wasn't sure what I thought about it when I first found it in the Betty Crocker cook book; but after trying it, I love it and wouldn't hesitate to make it again!

It's Time To Rock!

On June 21, I went to a Honor Society concert, with my cousins and a group of their friends, in Pontiac, MI. Now don't get me wrong, I love music but I have only went to a few other concerts in my entire life. However, this was my first real experience with a concert. My cousins are, what I like to call, concert junkies, and travel all over to see a variety of different bands perform which is awesome! Because of this, they were able to help give me the BEST concert experience possible. Let me give you a run-down of my day.
     1. We met at my aunt's house and had lunch with my cousins, their friend ashley, my grandma, and my aunt. Then we left to go to pontiac.
     2. About half way there we stopped for waters at a gas station which was a good thing because we were going to need them!
     3. At approx 1:30pm we made it to The Crofoot, where the concert was taking place, and walked up towards the front of the line where the rest of our group was waiting outside on the sidewalk. The temp was 90 degrees and it was nothing but sun and blue skies. The wind was at the back of the building so we couldn't feel it. We sat on the sidewalk for just over 5 hours waiting to get into the building for the meet and greet. Once in a while we would get up to walk down to the Blue Note Cafe to cool off and get a drink or something to eat. Other than that we just sat there and waited and it was extremely hot with no shade around and no wind. After a while they brought us out water because it was so hot out.
     4. Finally, around 6:30, the called up anybody with VIP tickets to come check in so that we could go in for the meet and greet. We walked into the building and were in air conditioning for a quick minute before we walked back into the heat into a court yard outside and had to wait a bit longer for the meet and greet. Luckily the passed out bottles of water for the wait.
     5. After waiting, they finally let all VIP in for the meet and greet. As we made our way to the table, we were given posters with 3 of the bands on it. Then we walked through and got to shake hands and talk with each of the members of Honor Society, Action Item, and Katelyn Tarver while they autographed our posters. When we got to the end of the line, we went upstairs to wait outside the Pike Room for the concert to start. I didn't mind waiting in there since it was air conditioned and felt great!
     6. Once all VIP members where through, they let us into the Pike Room for the concert and the rest of the audience that had been waiting outside was let in as well. We were in the first two rows since we were some of the first ones into the room. Instantly the temp went up in the room and it felt hotter than it had outside with everyone packed in.
     7. Finally the concert began! Sunderland opened for the concert. Next up was Katelyn Tarver, also known for her roles as Jo Taylor on the Nickelodeon series Big Time Rush and as Natalie on the ABC series No Ordinary Family. After she sang several of her own songs, she finished with a cover of  Katy Perry's Firework. Then she stepped off stage as Action Item stepped on. Each of these bands performed several songs and gave excellent performances! Once Action Item had finished, they removed their gear from the stage and it was replaced with the instruments for the final band. Set up took about 20 min. Then the lights went out and the crowd shook with cheers, screams, and clapping as Honor Society took the stage and began to play. After that, there was never a quite moment in the room. The played quite a few of their songs while the audience sang and danced along. Once in a while, a guitar pick would be thrown into the audience and everyone would jump for it.
     8. They finished up their performance and everyone left the room to go to the tables where each band was selling CDs, T-shirts, and other items.
     9. My cousins bought "The Box" from Action Item's booth for $40. This included a CD, several posters, and the opportunity to hang out with the band at a secret location after the show. We waited around for people to start to clear out. My cousins went for the after-show meet and greet where they were able to take pictures with the band. Then we met outside to wait to hang out with Action Item. After a while, we were let back into the building in one of the rooms that were downstairs. Everyone that had bought The Box was allowed in. It was a fairly small group of about 30 people that were there. We all sat at tables and visited with members of the group. They bought everyone tacos from Taco Bell and also played a few acoustic versions of their song for us while we ate.
     10. They finished up their songs around 1:00am. We stood outside and said our goodbyes to a few of the band members. Then we got in the van and headed home.
The day was very hot and tiring but it was definitely worth it! We heard GREAT music, spent time with great friends, hung out with the band, and had an overall EXCELLENT experience. I don't think I am cut out to be a concert junkie like my cousins (traveling all over to follow different bands around, watching their concerts, waiting in lines so I get a front row, and making it to all the meet and greets) but it is definitely an experience that I would try again some time!

Some AMAZING artwork!!

Have you ever been walking along the road when all of a sudden you realize you are about to fall into a deep well that just appeared to you in the middle of the road?? You flail your arms in circles as you try to catch yourself but it is too late...you are definitely going to fall in and right behind 2 other unfortunate people. You let yourself go preparing for the long drop into the deep dark well when all of a sudden you hit pavement. As you look around you realize that you are not falling into a well at all. Instead, you are sitting in the middle of a very very realistic chalk drawing! If this has ever happened to you, than you have probably witnessed, first hand, one of Julian Beever's chalk drawings.
Beever is an English chalk artist who has been creating creating trompe-l'Å“il  chalk drawings on pavement surfaces since the mid-1990s. His pieces are created using a projection called anamorphosis. This gives his drawings a cool 3D effect when viewed from the right angle.
Beever also works as a freelance artist and creates murals for companies.

Best Day EVER!!

Do you ever have days where it just feels like nothing could have happened to bring you down? Like nothing could go wrong? Well I experienced one of those days today! I went with my mom, dad, and sister to two open houses, a family friend and our cousin who both recently graduated. We had some great food: a taco bar at one open house and chicken, potatoe salad, baked beans, and vegetables at the other. They both had excellent dessert as well. We visited with awesome friends and family at each party. When the open houses were done, my mom, dad, sister, and I all went car shopping and then stopped at Walmart to image 0pick up a few groceries before returning home. I happened to go on Craigslist to browse for cars when we got home and ended up finding one right off the bat that was in my price range and in good condition. We got back in the car and drove out to look at it. After examining it and taking it out for a test drive, I decided to buy the car, a 1995 Chrysler Lebaron Convertible for a great price! I took a picture of the car on my phone because I was going to have to go back to pick it up. When I got back I showed my grandma and grandpa the picture of my car a visited with them for a while. Around the same time, I got a very exciting text...my best friend in the entire world had her first baby, a little girl named Ruthie who I plan to visit asap! It was wonderful news to end the day with! The rest of the night we sat around our house, played games, and watched TV. What an excellent day :)

I love Katy Perry's song, Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)! It is a fun song to listen too and I think her music video reflects that. The neon 80s-style clothing helps add to the fun atmosphere of the video as well. If you haven't watched this yet, I think you will find Katy very funny as she plays a slightly nerdy character with glasses, braces, and head gear. The video also features several famous people which include Youtube sensation, Rebecca Black (who sang Friday), Jazz musician Kenny G plays a solo on the sax while the pop band Hanson plays along side him, and "Glee" stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale

I love how they use shadows to create all of these different images during their performance!

Do You Think You Could Do This??

I think I could sit and scoot out like this first guy shown did but I could NEVER do what the guy in the red shirt did. Just watching makes me nervous for him!

The Benefits to Playing Beach Volleyball

Beach volleyball is an incredible workout! Much like swimming, running on the sand provides natural resistance that works your body more than normal. Indoor volleyball is a great workout but adding sand to the game cranks up the cardio as well as your heart rate by huge amounts! The sand almost holds you in place causing a natural resistance that creates an improved workout.

Playing defense in the sand is no easy task. It’s hard enough to slow down a ball moving at mach speed, but add the slow motion from the beach and you can forget about it. Training in the sand will help your speed and quickness while conditioning your body to move with explosiveness. This is key if you want to play beach volleyball. Jump train in the sand, run in the sand, and dive in the sand to prepare your body to work harder, and you’ll see the results even when you’re not at the beach.

If a beach body is your goal, then you can’t forget about nutrition. Beach volleyball is fun, but even more fun when you’re confident because you body looks great, and a great body generally starts with good nutrition. Taking a multivitamin will provide you with up to a couple dozen of your essential vitamins and minerals. The benefits of a multivitamin are pretty far reaching actually, and if you want a healthy body and a healthy lifestyle, a multivitamin is certainly a good place to start.

The 5 Biggest Excercise Myths

MYTH #1: DO 8 TO 12 REPETITIONS
The claim: It's the optimal repetition range for building muscle.
The origin: In 1954, Ian MacQueen, M.D., an English surgeon and competitive bodybuilder, published a scientific paper in which he recommended a moderately high number of repetitions for muscle growth.
The truth: This approach places muscles under a medium amount of tension for a medium amount of time—it's basically The Neither Here Nor There Workout.
Here's the deal: Higher tension—a.k.a. heavier weights—induces the type of muscle growth in which the muscle fibers grow larger, leading to the best gains in strength; longer tension time, on the other hand, boosts muscle size by increasing the energy-producing structures around the fibers, improving muscular endurance. The classic prescription of 8 to 12 repetitions strikes a balance between the two. But by using that scheme all the time, you miss out on the greater tension levels that come with heavier weights and fewer repetitions, and the longer tension time achieved with lighter weights and higher repetitions.
The new standard: Vary your repetition range—adjusting the weights accordingly—so that you stimulate every type of muscle growth. Try this method for a month, performing three full-body sessions a week: Do five repetitions per set in your first workout, 10 reps per set in your second workout, and 15 per set in your third workout.
MYTH #2: DO 3 SETS OF EACH EXERCISE
The claim: This provides the ideal workload for achieving the fastest muscle gains.
The origin: In 1948, a physician named Thomas Delorme reported in the Archives of Physical Medicine that performing three sets of 10 repetitions was as effective at improving leg strength as 10 sets of 10 repetitions.
The truth: There's nothing wrong with—or magical about—doing three sets. But the number of sets you perform shouldn't be determined by a 50-year-old default recommendation. Here's a rule of thumb: The more repetitions of an exercise you do, the fewer sets you should perform, and vice versa. This keeps the total number of reps you do of an exercise nearly equal, no matter how many repetitions make up each set.
The new standard: If you're doing eight or more reps, keep it to three sets or less. If you're pounding out less than three reps, you should be doing at least six sets.
BONUS TIP: When it comes to making lifestyle changes that will improve your health, your first step is the most important one. Start here: 20 Little Changes for a Healthier Life.
MYTH #3: DO 3 OR 4 EXERCISES PER MUSCLE GROUPThe claim: This ensures that you work all the fibers of the target muscle.
The origin: Arnold Schwarzenegger, circa 1966.
The truth: You'll waste a lot of time. Here's why: Schwarzenegger's four-decade-old recommendation is almost always combined with "Do three sets of 8 to 12 repetitions." That means you'll complete up to 144 repetitions for each muscle group. Trouble is, if you can perform even close to 100 repetitions for any muscle group, you're not working hard enough.
Think of it this way: The harder you train, the less time you'll be able to sustain that level of effort. For example, many men can run for an hour if they jog slowly, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who could do high-intensity sprints—without a major decrease in performance—for that period of time. And once performance starts to decline, you've achieved all the muscle-building benefits you can for that muscle group.
The new standard: Instead of focusing on the number of different exercises you do, shoot for a total number of repetitions between 25 and 50. That could mean five sets of five repetitions of one exercise (25 repetitions) or one set of 15 repetitions of two or three exercises (30 to 45 repetitions).
MYTH #4: NEVER LET YOUR KNEES GO PAST YOUR TOES
The claim: Allowing your knees to move too far forward during exercises such as the squat and lunge places dangerous shearing forces on your knee ligaments.
The origin: A 1978 study at Duke University found that keeping the lower leg as vertical as possible during the squat reduced shearing forces on the knee.
The truth: Leaning your torso too far forward, so that your knees stay back, is more likely to cause injury. In 2003, University of Memphis researchers confirmed that knee stress was 28 percent higher when the knees were allowed to move past the toes during the squat. But the researchers also found a countereffect: Hip stress increased nearly 1,000 percent when forward movement of the knee was restricted. The reason: The squatters had to lean their torsos farther forward. And that's a problem, because forces that act on the hip are transferred to the lower back, a more frequent site of injury than the knees.
The new standard: Watch a toddler squat. Push your hips back as far as you can, while keeping your torso as upright as possible. This will reduce the stress on your back and knees.
MYTH #5: WHEN YOU LIFT WEIGHTS, DRAW IN YOUR ABS
The claim: You'll increase the support to your spine, reducing the risk of back injuries.
The origin: In 1999, researchers in Australia found that some men with back pain had a slight delay in activating their transverse abdominis, a deep abdominal muscle that's part of the musculature that maintains spine stability. As a result, many fitness professionals began instructing their clients to try to pull their belly buttons to their spines—which engages the transverse abdominis—as they performed exercises.
The truth: "The research was accurate, but the interpretation by many researchers and therapists wasn't," says Stuart McGill, Ph.D., author of Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance and widely recognized as the world's top researcher on the spine. That's because muscles work in teams to stabilize your spine, and the most valuable players change depending on the exercise, says McGill. Read: The transverse abdominis isn't always the quarterback.
In fact, for any given exercise, your body automatically activates the muscles that are most needed for spine support. So focusing only on your transverse abdominis can overrecruit the wrong muscles and underrecruit the right ones. This not only increases injury risk, but reduces the amount of weight you can lift.
The new standard: If you want to give your back a supporting hand, simply "brace" your abs as if you were about to be punched in the gut, but don't draw them in. "This activates all three layers of the abdominal wall," says McGill, "improving both stability and performance."

5 Worst Beach-Body Foods

I am really into learning about exercises, foods, and drinks that are healthy for you. So for my first post I decided to share an article that I found covering the 5 Worst Beach-Body Foods by David Zinczenko with Matt Goulding. I like this article because not only does it tell you what foods/drinks are bad for you but it also gives a healthier alternative.

#5: WORST DRINK
Diet Coke (12 fl. oz. bottle) and other diet sodas
0 calories
0 g fat
0 g sugar
No calories, no fat, and no sugar—so what's the harm? For starters, the carbon dioxide that supplies soda's fizz will continue to burble and expand in your stomach, priming you for serious bloat. That's the short-term effect. The long-term could be even worse: The artificial sweeteners in diet soda might actually inhibit weight loss. Studies have shown that rats consuming artificial sweeteners consume more calories at subsequent meals. It's as if the promise of calories, without the payoff, causes the body to crave food. Below is a better beach-day beverage: Hint Water. By drinking water, you keep your body flushed out and your skin looking healthy, and since Hint uses natural flavors, you earn all the boons of hydration without suffering the downsides of sugar and artificial sweeteners.
Drink This Instead!Hint Cucumber Water (16 fl. oz.)
0 calories
0 g fat
0 g sugar
DROP 15 POUNDS FOR SUMMER: You can lose a couple of inches fast--and without dieting.
#4: WORST SNACK
Broccoli with ranch dressing  (1 cup broccoli and 2 Tbsp dressing)
170 calories
14.5 g fat (2 g saturated)
370 mg sodium
Broccoli, like cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage, falls into a class of produce known as cruciferous vegetables. These vegetables are among the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, and as such, they should be consumed as often as possible. That said, you might want to hold off your day's broccoli until you're off the beach. Cruciferous vegetables contain a sugar called raffinose—the same sugar that gives beans their heavy-winded reputation. In your gut, raffinose is fermented by gas-producing bacteria, which can make you feel bloated and gassy. That's not necessarily unhealthy, but it might lead to some awkward beach photos. Instead, if you're picking beach-bound snacks, pair high-fiber tortilla chips with low-calorie salsa. And be sure to avoid the dietary disasters on this list: The Worst Chips and Dips in America.
Eat This Instead!Food Should Taste Good Jalepeno chips with salsa (1 oz. chips/2 T. salsa)
150 calories
6 g fat (0.5 g saturated)
340 mg sodium
#3: WORST DESSERT
Russell Stover’s Sugar Free Toffee Squares (1.6 oz.)
210 calories
16 g fat (9 g saturated)
0 g sugar
Don't be duped into thinking that these candies are "healthy" just because they're sugar free. First, each serving has nearly half your day's saturated fat, and second, it contains 23 grams of sugar alcohol, a sweet carbohydrate that provides fewer calories per gram than actual sugar. These sweeteners aren't fully absorbed in the body, and as result, they simply ferment and emit gas. For some people, this causes severe discomfort and bloating. Stick with fruit and you'll avoid the problem entirely.
Eat This Instead!Fruit Salad of Banana, Mango, and Papaya (1 cup)
78 calories
0 g fat
14 g sugar
Bonus tip: A day in the sun will probably leave you craving something sweet at night. Check out this indispensable Eat This, Not That! list of the 15 Best & Worst Desserts in America.
#2: WORST DINNER
Stouffer’s Skillets Easy Express Broccoli & Beef (1/2 package)
350 calories
6 g fat (2.5 g saturated)
1,660 mg sodium
Looking beyond the raffinose-riddled broccoli, this meal is stuck with an absurd amount of sodium. If you're hungry enough to work through an entire bag, you've just exceeded your day's allotment by nearly 50 percent. Why is that a problem? Because sodium is an electrolyte that tells your body to withhold water. That's not the same as being properly hydrated. See, sodium-induced water retention causes you to carry water weight, which makes you appear swollen and puffy. Unless you're going for a beached-whale look, seek low-sodium foods before hitting the waves.
Eat This Instead!Birds Eye Viola! Shrimp Scampi (1.75 cups)
190 calories
2.5 g fat (1 g saturated)
540 mg sodium

#1: WORST SMOOTHIE
Smoothie King The Hulk Strawberry (20 oz.)
1,035 calories
32 g fat (13 g saturated)
125 g sugar
Few foods are as disarming as smoothies. The liquid meals have a reputation for being healthy and low in calories, which seems like a perfect combination right before you bear all on the beach. But let this be your warning: Not all smoothies are created equal. This one from Smoothie King packs as much sugar as 91 Nilla Wafers and more fat than a McDonald's Big Mac. If you drink something like this with any regularity, you might unknowingly be sabotaging your beach body all summer long. Make the swap to Smoothie King's Strawberry Shredder just three times a week and you'll drop more than two pounds every month.
Eat This Instead!Smoothie King Strawbery Shredder (20 oz.)
356 calories
1 g fat (0 g saturated)
41 g sugar
DID YOU KNOW? The average American consumes 450 liquid calories every day—that's a quarter of your daily allowance! And sugar-laden summer drinks are some of the worst offenders. See which summertime beverage is the worst offender in our must-see list of The 20 Worst Drinks in America!
